Instead of manually patching security sectors, use the Linux version of abgx360 (yes it is open source). You can also patch your own security sectors with abgx360.

Hi, great howto... Just a point to note, a lot of newer distros and specifically machines with SATA DVD ROM drives will need to replace /dev/dvd with /dev/scd0

This guide along with the posted comments are helpful. Specifically Magnus's and CanBert's, since the guide never explains how to simply read the disc to an image without the merging the ss.bin files and whatnot. Also, I'm assuming the drive the game image is being read from has some type of hacked firmware in order to "see" the game. When I tried this in my laptop with Ubuntu 8.04 the disc only showed ~5mb of data; which is the same in Windows.

Thanks anyway though :)

Beware! I burned two copies of a game using growisofs (both with and without imgbpatch) and my 360 kept giving dirty disc errors, and not just on my console. Burnt it with ImgBurn under Wine and it worked fine.

Excellent guide. Thanks.

People reading this might like to know of a program called abgx360 which can be used to verify ISOs under Linux. There's more info in this post.

great howto, and also works flawless with copying backup games also.

What I do to copy my friend's game is :

1. Create the image :
    dd bs=2048 if=/dev/scd0 of=IMAGE.000
being /dev/scd0 your DVD drive device
2. Check the file's size (I had one disk that generated a wrong image's size, no idea what caused it, but the disc didn't play on my console anyway, so i didn't copy it)
3. Apply the java growisofs patch (just for sure)
4. Burn the image.
5. Play it !!

WebBuddha:

your command line is wrong, you are trying to burn the .dvd file instead of the .iso file. Cheers

Easy to use K3B -- tools - config K3B -- programs -- user parameters -- click beside growisofs and put:

-use-the-force-luke=break:1913760

as parameter and save....will always burn DL with layer break and all 360 games work flawless.
